KC 76'ers knock off Team Breakdown 79-64 to win 2011 Las Vegas Fab 48 crown

The 2nd annual Las Vegas Fab 48 drew 450-plus teams from across the nation, Canada and Australia and 300-plus college coaches and media to Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas NV) this past weekend (July 22-25) and its second ever champion was crowned: Kansas City 76'ers.

Behind tourney MVP 6'6" junior Ishmael Wainwright (Raytown South/Raytown MO), the KC 76'ers knocked off Team Breakdown (FL) 79-64 to win the 2011 Las Vegas Fab 48 Invitational crown. After finishing 2nd in their super pool behind one of the pre-tourney favorites NJ Playaz, the KC 76'ers ran the table - sweeping their play-off opponents Gamepoint Black 17, World-Wide Renegades, Mac Irvin Fire (quarter-finals), Grassroots Canada (semi-finals) before capping off their impressive play-off run with their title win over Team Breakdown.

Fellow 76'er 6'6" senior Broderick Newbill (Hogan Prep/Kansas City MO) led his squad in the scoring column with 22 points (16 in 2nd half) in the championship game, but it was the strongly built Wainwright that was a force all tourney long, especially in his quarter-final final victorious match-up with 6'7" junior Jabari Parker who had recently solidified the consensus of opinion among national scouts that he was not only the #1 prospect in the 2012 but also in any current HS class.

A grassroots superpower in 1990's with rosters that included HS All-Americans like Korleone Young, Jaron Rush, Earl Watson, Corey Maggette and Brandon Rush, the KC 76'ers have re-ignited their program thanks to the heavy involvement from one of their alums Earl Watson (currently in the NBA).

College coaches on hand this year included head coaches such as Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Roy Williams (North Carolina), John Calipari (Kentucky), Billy Donovan (Florida), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Ben Howland (UCLA), Rick Barnes (Texas), Mike Montgomery (Cal), Tim Floyd (UTEP), Tubby
