Singleton’s Scoring Binge Leads
Belmont Shore to 2016 Pangos Spring Spectacular Title

The 5th annual Pangos Spring Spectacular was held April 15-17, 2016 @ Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas NV) and surrounding area gyms.  80 teams from six Western states as well as Florida and Australia participated.  A sizeable contingent of college coaches as well as national/regional media and scouts attended including Ronnie Flores (BallisLife.com & Grassroothoops.net), Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press & Nothing But Net Magazine), Chad Groth (AreaCodesBasketball.com) and Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com).

Fast-rising elite 6-4 2018 guard David Singleton III (Bishop Montgomery/Torrance CA) put on a scoring exhibition that the tourney had never seen – leading his Belmont Shore squad to a 5-0 tourney record and 81-67 victory over a sharpshooting and tough MOC Elite Black 17 team in the 17u Invite Gold championship game. 

Singleton reached the 40+ mark three straight games, capping it off with a 42 point out-burst vs MOC Black 17 in the title game.  Belmont Shore’s path to the championship included a 90-65 semi-final win over 702 Attack (NV).

In the 17u Invite Silver Division Playoff, it was Team Arsenal 17 Elite (CA) that edged Arizona Aces/Unsigned Seniors (AZ) 68-65 to win the crown.

In the 17u Platinum Division Gold Playoffit was Arizona Aces Elite 17 (AZ) outlasting Start2Star (CA) 73-71 in the championship game.

California United 16 (CA) was the class of the 16u Division – defeating Power Factory 16 (AZ) 60-47 in the Gold Playoff championship game while Coastal Elite 16 (AZ) beat Las Vegas Knicks 16 (NV) 75-70 in the 16u Silver title game.  Cal United’s 6’3” 2018 Lunden Taylor (San Joaquin Memorial/Fresno CA) was named 16u Division MVP.

California United 15 (CA) won the 15u Gold Division – emerging victorious over Vegas Elite 2020 Blue (NV) 96-87 in the championship game.  Talented 2020 prospects 6’4” Jalen Green& 6’5” Julian Strawther named 15u Division co-MVPs.

The 2016 Pangos Spring Spectacular 17u Invite Divisionall-tourney team (MVP followed by rest of team in alphabetical order) is as follows:

David Singleton                    6’4”     2018    Bishop Montgomery (Torrance CA) MVP
Singleton had a “major statement” weekend here and showed the ability to play either guard spot very effectively.  Singleton possesses one of the quickest shooting releases in the country and his range on his shot extends well beyond the HS 3-point line. David also finishes with authority through contact and plays tough defense.  Rattled off 44 points, 41 points and 42 points to end the tourney – averaging an event best 35.6 ppg in the process and leading Belmont Shore to a 5-0 record (corralling tourney MVP honors).  Excellent student (3.9 GPA) is now hearing from Stanford, UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, Michigan, Cal, USC, UConn, Georgetown, Vanderbilt and Harvard.

Young PG with a tremendous feel for game can score out to the 3-point line as well as create effectively for teammates.

Jonathan Conley                   6’6”     2016    Moravian Prep (Hickory NC)
Emerging HM wing prospect has dramatically improved his skills over past year.  Ultra-athletic and explosive off the dribble, Conley has also developed a potent perimeter shot.  Former Inglewood HS product is hearing from UNLV, Cincinnati, Washington State,Oregon State and UTEP.

Skilled lead guard with size can put points on board and is an excellent student.

Savvy combo-guard with nice mid-range pull-up jump shot.

Harry Froling                         6’10”   2016    Lake Ginninderra (Douglas, Australia)
Skilled PF with size and agility has nice touch on his perimeter shot.  SMU-bound Aussie participated recently on International team at Nike Hoop Summit in Portland OR.

Naseem Gaskin                     6’3”     2018    Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland CA)
Young wing guard attacks defenders off the bounce and is a very good defender.

Bryce Hamilton                     6’2”     2018    Pasadena (Pasadena CA)
Promising young lefty scoring lead guard is quick and athletic on drives to the cup and has accurate touch on his 3-point shot.  Very good student too (3.4 GPA).  Dad played for legendary Bear Haskins at UTEP & cousins are Jordan (NBA), Isaac (UCLA) and Daniel Hamilton (UConn).

Quick combo-guard has nice ball skills and is a terrific passer.  Attended last October’s USA Basketball mini-camp in Colorado Springs CO.

Young center with great length is improving rapidly as shot-blocker and defender.

High-scoring playmaker with rock-solid ball skills.

Very athletic wing forward runs the floor like a deer in transition and is an excellent defender.

Crafty PG with a legitimate perimeter stroke.

Very improved interior player is considering spending a post-grad year at Brewster Academy/NH.

Big, assertive post can finish with authority inside.

California native is a skilled center with soft hands and has nice mobility.  As strength increases over time and with physical conditioning, will be a factor at next level.  Very good student is hearing from Stanford, UC-Irvine and SMU.

Athletic and strong PF has impressive explosiveness inside paint.  Very good student too.

Post-player with size, mobility and excellent upside.  One to track in the West’s 2017 class.

Super 2016 West Coast sleeper is a very versatile forward that makes an impact on both ends of the floor – attacking the hoop off the bounce, filling the lane like a gazelle in transition or mixing it up on defensive glass.  Had a 32 point game here.  Recruitment is starting to pick-up and is now hearing from the likes of UTEP. Considering spending a post-grad year at Brewster Academy/NH.
