2009 Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp Report: Part II

The 9th annual Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp that was held at Cabrillo HS (Long Beach CA) last month (October 3-4) featured 180 top 2012 and 2013 players (along with a few talented 2014 ballers) from California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Kansas, New Mexico, Wyoming and Hawaii.  The camp began with the customary terrific instruction by former NCAA D-I and NBA assistant coach Dave Miller and continued with four competitive rounds of games that showcased the depth of the young talent present.

 

Media/scouts present included event co-director Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press, Nothing But Net & Hoop Scoop), event co-director Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram), Ronnie Flores (ESPNRise.com), Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Sean Ceglinsky (Nothing But Net), Greg Hicks (Scouthoops.com), Gerry Freitas (Hoop Review), Dave Keefer, Jack Nelson & Dave Rogahn (CaliforniaPreps.com), Dave Nahabedian (Networx), Roy White (WestCoastHoopsReport.com), Victoria Sun

(Nothing But Net), Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com), Neal Nieves (Coast2CoastRecruiting.net) and Nick Koza (Sportsamp.com).

The camp’s top 50 players were selected by the camp staff and media present and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event.

The first report (released last week) highlighted players that were selected to the Top 25 “Cream of the Crop” Game.  In part II of this report here, we will highlight the Top 50 selections (listed by alphabetical order) as well as several others that impressed.

Dakarai Allen                                   6’3”     Fr.       Sheldon (Sacramento CA)

Good-looking young wing is a name we will be hearing from in the future.

Michael Alvarez                               6’2”     So.      Gahr (Cerritos CA)

Hustling wing is strong with the ball and applies stiff defensive pressure.  Excellent student.

 

Frankie Bamford                            6’5”     So.      La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla CA) 

Burly PF hits the glass hard and is an underrated scorer with his back to the basket.  Bamford had a very solid effort in the Top 50 game (9 points/5 boards/3 assists).

 

Glenn Baral                                      6’3”     So.      St. Mary’s (Berkeley CA) 

Slashing scorer is also a solid defender.

 

Connor Clifford                               6’9”     So.      Ocean View (Huntington Beach CA)

Big post player has made sizeable improvement over the past year.

 

Nick Colletta                                    6’4”     Fr.       La Verne Lutheran (La Verne CA) 

High-scoring off-guard can really shoot the rock.  Excellent student with tremendous attitude and work-ethic.

 

Chris Cook                                       6’2”     So.      Legacy (Las Vegas NV)

Long off-guard has very solid basketball IQ and is a good FT shooter.

 

Chris Croom                                    5’7”     So.      Poly (Long Beach CA)

Jet-quick playmaker (a Dominguez transfer) is a harassing defender (3 steals in Top 50 game).

 

James Hadnot                                 6’2”     Fr.       Inderkum (Sacramento CA)

Annoying defender moves well without the ball.

 

DJ Harris                                          5’10”  So.      Morningside (Inglewood CA)

Fast playmaker has nice ability to penetrate and kick.

 

Zachary Hollis                                 6’7”     So.      Knight (Palmdale CA)  

Post forward with length grabbed 5 boards in the Top 50 game.

 

Ikenna Iroegbu                                5’11”  Fr.       Franklin (Elk Grove CA) 

One of the top surprises of the camp, Ikenna is a wise PG with tremendous court vision and passion ability (dished out 8 assists in Top 50 game).  Joel Francisco (ESPN.com) has already tagged him as the #1 West Coast point guard prospect in the 2013 Class.  Underrated rebounder too (6 boards).

 

Callum Long                                    6’3”     So.      Flagstaff (Flagstaff AZ) 

Efficient scorer had 10 points (on 5/6 shooting) in Top 50 game.

 

Braiten Madrigal                             6’3”     So.      St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)

Skilled wing with a dangerous 3-point stroke is also an excellent student.  Scored 10 points (on 5/6 from the field) in the Top 50 game.

 

Anthony Martinez                           6’0”     So.      Gahr (Cerritos CA) 

Scrappy combo-guard has a nice pull-up jump shot.  Good student.

 

Taylor Millay                                    6’7”     So.      Natrona County (Caspar WY) 

Strong and physical power-forward can score on the block.

 

 

Rashad Muhammad                      6’4”     Fr.       Gorman (Las Vegas NV)
Younger brother of super soph Shabazz Muhammad is an emerging star in his own right.  Rashad was the leading scorer in the Top 50 game - 21 points (to go along with 6 boards).

 

Connor Patterson                          6’4”     So.      Gilbert Christian (Gilbert AZ) 

Blue-collar wing forward is a solid defender and an excellent “glue” guy.  Great student (4.0 GPA).

 

Myles Pearson                                5’10    So       Upland (Upland CA)

Heady point has real ability to run a squad.

 

Jared Ponce                                                6’2”     So.      Ayala (Chino Hills CA)

Sharp-shooting guard is one of three talented soph triplets playing at Ayala.  Terrific student.

 

Dulani Robinson                            5’6”     So.      McClymonds (Oakland CA) 
Small but crafty PG plays with the intensity coaches love.  Dulani was a factor in the Top 50 game – producing 9 points/7 rebounds/4 assists.

 

Chris Selby                                      6’3”     So.      Perry (Gilbert AZ)

Hardnosed wing has ability to score from the perimeter and his 5 boards in the Top 50 game

indicated a willingness to help out on the glass as well.  Honors student currently taking courses like Calculus and Mandarin Chinese.

 

Isaiah Taylor                                    5’9”     So.      St. Mary’s (Berkeley CA) 

Slippery floor general handles on-ball defensive pressure well and is a good passer too (4 assists in the Top 50 Game).

 

Daveon Thomas                             6’6”     So.      Carson (Carson CA)

Well-built PF runs floor well and is a terror on the glass.

 

Kyi Thomas                                     6’3”     So.      Hiram Johnson (Sacramento CA)

Kyi had a big scoring performance in the Top 50 Game – pumping in 18 points on 9/14 shooting.

 

Michael Washington                      6’3”     So.      Oak Harbor (Oak Harbor WA) 

Strong and skilled Northwest wing is a player that has nice potential to evolve into a solid D-I player.

 

Javion Watson                                6’2”     So.      San Ysidro (San Ysidro CA)

Quick off the dribble, Javion (cousin of NBA player Earl Watson) is a slashing scorer worth keeping track of.

 

Darien Williams                               6’5”     Fr.       Gahr (Cerritos CA)  

Athletic forward with tremendous upside is a young prospect definitely on the rise.

 

D’erryl Williams                               6’3”     Fr.       Sheldon (Sacramento CA)

Scorer-deluxe had 14 points (on 7/10 shooting) in Top 50 Game.

 

Jr. Williams                                       5’8”     So.      Cleveland (Reseda CA) 

Quick PG has excellent ability to penetrate defenses.  Younger brother of former Taft star and San Francisco freshman guard Michael Williams.

 

Dion Wright                                      6’4”     So.      Mayfair (Lakewood CA)  

Athletic wing is a very effective slashing scorer and excellent defender.

Cousin of YouTube sensation Cezar Guerrero is a natural-born scorer himself.

Wing runs the floor well and can finish in transition.

 

Aubrey Dawkins                             5’11”  Fr.       St. Francis (Mountain View CA) 

Youngest son of Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins has very good court instincts.

 

Isaac Deese                                     5’7”     8th        Haskel MS (Lakewood CA) 

Promising young Long Beach-area guard plays with excellent confidence and already competes well against older HS athletes.  Terrific student.

 

Christian Delgado                          5’11”  8th        Hoover (Lakewood CA) 

Fundamentally sound young swingman plays hard 100% of the time.

 

Bryce Fitzner                                   6’6”     Fr.       Parker (San Diego CA)

Developing big man has a good feel for the game and a work ethic that bodes well for future success.

 

Max Forutan                                                6’0”     So.      Oak Park (Oak Park CA)

Heady combo-guard has nice perimeter stroke.

 

Logan Fougnies                             6’0”     So.      Gilbert Christian (Gilbert AZ)

Scrappy lead guard is a dependable ballhandler.   Great student (4.0 GPA).

Cerebral point guard is an excellent ballhandler with legitimate 3-point range.

 

Donald Muepo                                6’6”     So.      Serra (Gardena CA) 

Active PF rebounds well and can score in traffic.

 

Mark Patterson                               5’8”     Fr.       Mayfair (Lakewood CA) 

Smart point guard is a fine passer and “A” student.

 

Elliott Pitts                                        6’3”     Fr.       De La Salle (Concord CA) 

Hardworking wing has solid perimeter skills.


Matthew Ponce                               5’7”     So.      Ayala (Chino Hills CA)

Feisty PG plays with the heart of a lion and has a perimeter stroke that must be respected.  Very good student.

 

Tyler Ponce                                     6’2”     So.      Ayala (Chino Hills CA)  

The third of the three Ponces is also an offensive force that can put points on the board.  Excellent student.

 

Joshua Ramirez                             6’4”     So.      Ayala (Chino Hills CA) 

Big wing has a nice perimeter stroke.

Frank Reshard                                6’3”     So.      Gahr (Cerritos CA)

Athletic wing attacks the cup with authority.

 

Luke Silverman-Lloyd                   6’2”     So.      Windward (Los Angeles CA)

Heady off-guard is a very good “catch & shoot” perimeter marksman.

 

Patrick Scully                                  5’9”     So.      Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA)

Hard-working point takes care of the rock and does a good job finding open teammates.  Excellent student.

 

Grant Tucker                                   6’5”     Fr.       Gorman (Las Vegas NV) 

Forward with considerable upside is a player to track in the 2013 class.

 

Hassan Tucker                               5’11”  Fr.       Rincon (Tucson AZ)  

Young point handles defensive pressure well.

 

Nick Velasquez                               5’11”  Fr.       Punahou (Honolulu HI) 

Hawaii native is an excellent defender and a dependable ballhandler.  Hails from same HS that produced President Barack Obama.

 

Brian Wright                                                6’0”     Fr.       Mayfair (Lakewood CA)
Athletic guard makes plays on the defensive end.


Jalen Young                                                6’2”     So.      King (Riverside CA)
 

Steady guard plays with poise and is a leader on the floor.
