Daniels and Garrett Among Top National Talent Invited to 2010 Boost Mobile Elite 24
(August 12, 2010)

The 2010 version of the Boost Mobile Elite 24 has swung coasts this year relocating from its previous home NYC’s Rucker Park to the ocean-front courts of Venice Beach CA on Saturday August 27th.  As has been customary, it is again loaded with top talent this year including local standouts 6’8” senior DeAndre Daniels (Taft/Woodland Hills CA) and 6’6” senior Amir Garrett (former Leuzinger star now headed to Findlay Prep/Henderson NV for his senior year).  Daniels and Garrett are joined in this year’s game by other top West Coast prospects like Shabazz Muhammad, Jabari Brown, Jahii Carson, Nick Johnson and Kyle Wiltjer.

Other elite national players participating include Quincy Miller, Myck Kabongo, Austin Rivers, Bradley Beal, LeBryan Nash, Quinn Cook, James McAdoo, Quddus Bello, Adonis Thomas, Alex Murphy, Rakeem Christmas, DaJuan Coleman, Johnny O’Bryant, LaQuinton Ross, Michael Gbinije, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Shannon Scott.  The game will be televised live on ESPNU at 4:30pm PST on Saturday August 27th………………………

College commitments are starting to trickle in and several have been announced since the July period started.   6’2” senior point guard Alexis Moore (Poly/Long Beach CA) gave his allegiance to USC.  Moore (a solid floor-general with an underrated perimeter shot) will lead SoCal’s anticipated #1 high school squad this upcoming season……….. 6’11” senior center Kyle Caudill (Brea-Olinda/Brea CA) has committed to Boston College.  Caudill has soft hands and a nice face-up game but his lack of mobility and athleticism could be problematic in a super conference like the ACC………6’2” senior combo-guard Tre Demps (Reagan/San Antonio TX) said yes to Northwestern’s offer this summer.  If the Demps name sounds familiar, Tre’s dad Dell played at Pacific and then in the NBA before assuming his current post as General Manager for the New Orleans Hornets……….…

Fast-rising senior point guard Michael Caffey (Centennial/Corona CA) gave a quick verbal to Long Beach State shortly after visiting the coastal campus.  Caffey is an excellent addition to the 49’ers and the kind of quality local product that should help return Dan Monson’s squad to the NCAA tourney sooner  rather than later………...

While Caffey pulled the trigger for Long Beach State, his Corona Centennial teammate 6’1” senior scoring combo-guard Gelaun Wheelwright decided to re-open his recruitment after being committed to USC since July of 2009.  Wheelwright is a high-octane scorer who can really fill it up when hot and should garner mid-high major interest………………

Underclassmen weren’t the only ones going off the board in July and August as Northern Arizona made a summer move on underrated 6’7” Clint Bozner (Villa Park/Villa Park CA).  Bozner (a 2010 grad) is a sharp-shooting forward with strength and much bounce in his hop…………………..California’s most talented 2012 guard prospect (and perhaps the Golden State’s most underrated one nationally) is 6’2” combo Gabe York (Orange Lutheran/Orange CA).  I have been telling national media for the past two years that he is the real deal and this summer (playing for Compton Magic) he continued to make me look like a prophet as he torched defenses all summer.  Against the New England Playaz at the adidas Invitational in

Indianapolis IN, York exploded for 37 points including the game-winning shot in OT.  When will his national rankings reflect this Jerryd Bayless-type scoring guard’s immense talent and potential?  I hope soon.........................

Speaking of underrated players, another prospect you can put in that category is 6’7” senior power-forward Xavier Jones (La Verne Lutheran/La Verne CA).  Jones is a very improved post scorer who has always been a dependable rebounder and defender.   Add in excellent academics and you got the ingredients of a circle landing back in Southern California at USC.  King will sit out this upcoming year (per NCAA rules) and have just one Division I year left to play for the Trojans in 2011-12………………….Late August always brings news of high school transfers and this year is no different.  SoCal players relocating this fall include 6’6” junior Xavier Johnson – from Chaparral (Temecula CA) to Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA), 6’6” soph Chaunce Hill - from Windward (Los Angeles CA) to Fairfax (Los Angeles CA), Ventura county native 6’5” junior Michael Avery – from Montverde FL back to his original HS Crespi (Encino CA), 5’11”  junior Landon Drew – from Taft (Woodland Hills CA) toHarvard-Westlake (North Hollywood CA,  6’1” soph Jahmel Taylor – from Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA) to Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth CA), 6’1” senior Darius Middleton – from Leuzinger (Lawndale CA) to Fairfax (Los Angeles CA), 6’5” soph Nick Colletta – from Lutheran (La Verne CA) to Glendora (CA), 6’6” junior Cole Huff – from Campbell Hall (North Hollywood CA) to Westwind Prep (Phoenix AZ), 6’5” senior Marcus Bradley – from Beaumont (CA) to Corona del Mar (Newport Beach CA) and 6’1” juniors Marqueze and Michael Coleman from Dorsey (Los Angeles CA) to Alemany (Mission Hills CA).

player that should be a sought-after low-mid major recruit for excellent academic institutions………………Speaking of La Verne Lutheran (2010 California State Division V champions), 6’8” super-skilled junior forward Grant Jerrett continued to impress this summer both on a team (Belmont Shore) and individual level.   Outstanding performances at the Pangos All-American Camp (June 4-6), Pangos All-American LIVE (July 9-10) and Fullcourt Press All-West Camp (July 11-13) have catapulted him high atop the 2012 national rankings – sitting at the #10 spot on Rivals.com and pegged at #13 on Scout.com.  The growing list of schools desiring a Jerrett signature on a future letter of intent include Arizona, UCLA, USC, Georgetown, Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Arizona State, Cal, Washington, Washington State, Wake Forest, UNLV, West Virginia, Gonzaga, Colorado and Marquette…………...Former Mater Dei star 6’7” Taylor King was a heralded prep prospect who has made high-major pit stops at Duke and Villanova but has come full-
