2007 Fullcourt Press Spring Showcase Report II: Class of 2009
By Dinos Trigonis
(June 29, 2007)
The annual Fullcourt Press Spring Showcase was held earlier this spring (May) and as was the case with previous editions, there was plenty of talent present. Four classes (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011) were on hand and they gave us plenty of evidence of both the present and future. In this report, I will focus on the members of the Class of 2009 that took part. While a few of the local marquee names were not on hand, a substantial number of other players (including several relatively unknown athletic forwards) made a statement that this SoCal Class of 2009 is one of the deepest in years.
Jordan Hamilton 6’6” 2009 Dominguez (Compton CA)
Big time scoring machine has transferred from Dorsey (Los Angeles CA) to Dominguez (Compton CA) giving the Dons a legitimate marquee player and a “go to guy” capable of putting huge points on the board. Top 20 national talent.
Darius Morris 6’2” 2009 Windward (Los Angeles CA)
Quick and slithering point has a knack for making the right play at the right time. Excellent ball skills with pinpoint passing ability (as well as a hefty 3.5 GPA) make him an attractive 2009 national PG prospect that is starting to attract the attention of national media.
Aaron Moore 6’7” 2009 Dominguez (Compton CA)
Athletic combo-forward is an excellent slashing scorer and active rebounder who was out for awhile (due to a foot injury) and is now starting to make noise again. Washington is among the many schools showing sincere interest in Moore who hopes to regain the form that at one time (as a frosh) had him being considered as a national elite recruit.
Stephan Heard 6’6” 2009 Jordan (Long Beach CA)
Athletic swingman with a vibrant bounce in his step has Top 100 potential. Nice touch on jump shot with excellent ability to defend make him one to keep an eye on. Long Beach Jordan’s best prospect since 2000 McDonald’s All-American Travon Bryant (Missouri/German Pro League).
Devonte Elliott 6’7” 2009 Paramount (Paramount CA)
Very long forward is oozing with potential. Elliott runs the floor like a deer and is a very underrated perimeter shooter. With added strength, weight and hard work, could be a coveted recruit.
Julian Wheeler 6’1” 2009 Beverly Hills (Beverly Hills CA)
Quick point has excellent ability to beat defenders off the dribble. Wheeler is one of the region’s most underrated guards in this class.
D’Sean Anderson 6’6” 2009 Poly (Long Beach CA)
Strong forward is built well and has ability to step out to the 3-point line to knock down shots. Combo-forward has mid-major potential with potential to rise higher beyond that.
D’Angelo Scott 6’6” 2009 Lynwood (Lynwood CA)
Very raw forward is nowhere close to peaking physically but is intriguing due to his agility and his above-average ballhandling for size. Scott (nicknamed “Spaghetti”) hails from the same HS that produced USC’s Davon Jefferson.
Phil Gruber 6’5” 2009 Westview (San Diego CA)
Skilled small forward has range on jump shot as well has good basketball instincts.
James Boyd 6’5” 2009 Jordan (Los Angeles CA)
Athletic swingman is an excellent slashing scorer with much upside.
Myron Green 6’3” 2009 Dominguez (Compton CA)
Strong wing made a steal and game-winning bucket in OT to finally put an end to the exciting Top 20 soph game here. Important part of Dominguez’s team nucleus for 2007-08.
Jordan Mackie 6’4” 2009 Dorsey (Los Angeles CA)
Athletic wing is very underrated, but needs to be consistent to garner the recruiting respect that he deserves.
Robert Allen 6’0” 2009 Crossroads (Santa Monica CA)
Athletic combo-guard handles rock well and applies very good defensive pressure.
Gilbert Parga 6’3” 2009 St. John Bosco (Bellflower CA)

Cerebral off-guard’s confidence is rising and has range to the three-point stripe.

Very improved wing forward has a nice touch on jump shot and developing court instincts.
