Trigonis Tidbits: Beverly Continues Leuzinger History of Late Blooming

6’3” senior point guard Donnell Beverly (Leuzinger/Lawndale CA) has signed with UConn, choosing the Huskies over interest from LSU, Kent State, Cal and San Diego. Beverly (the Fullcourt Press #1 ranked SoCal senior point guard) is a lefty with a very solid handle and a nice feel for the game. Beverly continues the recent Leuzinger tradition of producing late-bloomers that excel at the next levels. Past Leuzinger products that have panned out include Dorrell Wright (Miami Heat) and Russell Westbrook (UCLA)……………… 6’0” senior point guard Heiden Ratner (Silverado/Las Vegas NV) has signed with James Madison after visiting the Blacksburg VA campus recently. Ratner is a “tough-as nails” lead guard who has legitimate three-point range……………..

6’6” senior power forward Darshawn McClellan (Edison/Fresno CA) has signed with Vanderbilt. The undersized, but very strong and physical post is very productive and is a solid pick-up for the Commodores…………6’2” senior combo-guard Donte Poole (Mojave/Las Vegas NV) has signed with Colorado State, giving new Ram coach Tim Miles a quick and athletic scorer who is also a very effective defender………..Etiwanda (Etiwanda CA) grad 6’7” sophomore Rashad Austin (Northeastern Colorado JC) has signed with Bradley, picking the Braves over New Mexico State. Austin is a strong and athletic forward who should do well in the Missouri Valley Conference………… 6’7” senior George Barbour (Torrance/Torrance CA) has signed with Monmouth. Barbour (who played his junior season alongside current UNC forward Deon Thompson) is an agile forward that runs the floor well and can play above the rim………….

Oakland native 6’6” Bennie Rhodes who spent this past season at Mt. Zion (Durham NC) has signed with SMU. Rhodes is an athletic swingman that is vastly improved and should be a positive addition for Matt Doherty’s Mustangs……………5’11” senior point guard Joey Fuca (San Ramon/San Ramon CA) has signed with Masters College in Valencia CA. Fuca averaged 15 points and 4.6 assists during his senior season…………NCAA Division I schools looking for that one last-minute true senior sleeper will be pleased to learn that 6’10” Kyle Barone (Pacifica/Garden Grove CA) is still on the board. Barone is mobile, has nice shotblocking and rebounding instincts and is assertive on the offensive end. Prior to not having his contract renewed by Long Beach State, Larry Reynolds was the only D-I coach to offer this intriguing prospect a scholarship……………… The Gahr (Cerritos CA) high school spring league is already underway and two of the most promising players in the league are a pair of sophomores: 6’7” Derrick Williams (La Mirada/La

Williams is a rapidly developing combo-forward that has underrated perimeter skills while Elliott is a quick and springy forward that runs the floor well and has huge upside…………6’4” junior combo-guard Ryan Kelley has transferred from Ayala (Chino Hills CA) to Diamond Ranch (Diamond Bar CA). Kelley (a skilled combo-guard with range on his jump shot) has played very well this spring……………. Modesto Christian (Modesto CA) got some great news this semester when 6’4” junior DJ Seeley (formerly of Tokay/Lodai CA) checked in. Seeley is an athletic slashing scorer who is starting to receive heavy D-I interest including offers from Pac-10 schools like Cal.
