2007 CIF-Southern Section Championship Results

The California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) crowned their annual champions on Thursday March 1st and Friday March 2nd at Colony High School (Ontario CA) and on Saturday March 3rd at the Honda Center (Anaheim CA).  Here are the results:

 

Division I-AA

 

Artesia (Lakewood CA) 77  Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA) 68

In a “see-saw” affair which saw countless lead changes, 6’5” senior James Harden (Arizona State signee) sparked his team to victory with timely scoring, rebounding and passing (19 points/10 boards/5 assists) as well as tremendous defense while 6’9” soph Renardo Sydney contributed a team-high 22 points/14 rebounds.  Artesia’s 6’1” senior AJ Gaspora also scored 14 clutch points including 2 big free-throws to put the Pioneers ahead for good 73-68.  Duke-bound 6’7” senior Taylor King scored a game-high 31 points for Mater Dei while 6’10” sophs Dave and Travis Wear combined for 18 points/14 boards for the Monarchs.

 

Division I-A

 

Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA) 67   Redondo Union (Redondo Beach CA) 50

6’9” junior Corbin Moore (27) and 6’10” senior Clint Amberry (15) combined for 42 points to lead Los Alamitos to a second straight CIF sectional title.  5’11” senior point Alex Tucker had 15 points to lead the runner-up Seahawks.

 

Division II-AA

 

Pasadena (Pasadena CA) 79   St. Bernard (Playa del Rey CA)  63

Athletic 6’5” senior Nigel Ajere scored 27 points and 6’0” senior lead guard Trevon Harmon had 25 points to propel the Bulldogs to an impressive 16 point win.  6’4” senior Jourdan Sweeney scored 25 points while 6’0” junior point guard Devin Price added 19 points for St. Bernard.

 

Division II-A

 

Centennial (Corona CA) 45   Norco (Norco CA) 39

5’6” senior point guard JR Quillao scored two of his game high 17 points at the free-throw line with 2.5 seconds remaining to seal the win for Huskies.  6’3” senior Justin Collins scored 13 points for the runners-up Cougars.

 

Division III-AA

 

Campbell Hall (North Hollywood CA) 61  La Canada (La Canada CA)  57  OT

6’3” junior Jrue Holiday had 38 points (15/28 shooting) and 9 boards to help Campbell Hall outlast a gritty and well-coached La Canada squad.  6’7” senior Adam Malik poured in 31 points to help the Spartans force OT and take the Vikings down to the wire.

 

Division III-A

 

Corona Del Mar (Newport Beach CA) 67   Renaissance Academy (La Canada CA)  59

6’9” junior Stefan Kaluz scored 23 points and pulled down 7 boards to spark the Sea Kings to victory.  6’5” junior Joe Eberhard also contributed 18 points and 8 rebounds for CDM.  6’2” junior Justin Cook scored 17 points for the Wildcats while promising 6’8” soph Anthony Stover had 10 points and 5 boards for the runners-up.

 

Division IV-AA

 

Ontario Christian (Ontario CA) 53    Kaiser (Fontana CA) 49    

6’3” senior Justus Jones scored 16 points to lead Ontario Christian to the IV-AA title.

 

Division IV-A

 

29 Palms (29 Palms CA) 63    Buckley (Sherman Oaks CA) 51

6’2” sophomore Montreal Harris scored 21 points to lead the Wildcats to victory over the Griffins.

 

Division V-AA

 

Pacific Hills (West Hollywood CA) 62   Linfield Christian (Temecula CA)   45

5’11” sophomore Derrick Flowers scored 16 points and dished out 8 assists and 6’3” junior Lorenzo Corley added 10 points/9 boards to lead the Bruins over the Lions.

 

Division V-A

 

Desert (Edwards AFB CA) 49   Rosamond (Rosamond CA)   44   

6’7” senior Robert Thurman led the winners with 11 points and 9 boards.
