Ventura Junior College Tournament Report

Antelope Valley (Lancaster CA) came away with the Championship at the Ventura JC tourney defeating LA Valley (Van Nuys CA) in the finals.  6-4 Ade Dagunduro, who signed early with Marshall, led Antelope Valley and was named the tournament MVP.  Bakersfield College edged out San Diego City College in the 3rd place game led by 6-3 Terrance Johns who poured in 34 points.  Ventura defeated Mt. SAC for the Consolation Championship led by 6-9 Danny Tavares who scored 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Here are the top 15 prospects from the Ventura Junior College tournament ...

1. Rishawn Norwood  6-5  SO  Mt. San Antonio (Walnut CA) - Top 5 player in the nation who can be as high as #1 in some publications.  Didn't play that well, but still managed to average 27 points per game. Showed flashes of being super explosive attacking the rim.  Nebraska leads for his services.

2. Danny Tavares  6-9  SO  Ventura (Ventura CA) - Ranked top 15 in the country. Tavares had a triple double the first game with blocks.   He averaged 18 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks over the course of the tournament.  He can play inside or out and is definitely a high major prospect.

3. Ervin Dunson  6-8  SO  San Diego City (San Diego CA) - Put City on his back in the first game with 21 points and 18 rebounds and then followed that performance with 33 points and 12 rebounds.  Super explosive wing forward who just gets a lot done.  One of the most underrated players in the country although he is rated top 50 in some publications.

4. Ade Dagunduro  6-4  SO  Antelope Valley (Lancaster CA) - Versatile combo guard who just does a little bit of everything. Plays super hard and can also defend.  Steal for Marshall.   He should be an impact player at that level.  Averaged 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

5. Anthony Pimble  6-5  SO  Ventura (Ventura CA) - Known as “Afrika” in the Rucker (New York summer league) where he is a household name.  He could be the best finisher in the state of California.   He's an unbelievable athlete who has really developed other parts of his game to become a legitimate division 1 prospect.   He had a breakout tournament averaging 22 points and 12 rebounds while shooting a sizzling 69% from the floor.  He's a big time energy and excitement guy who never tries to play outside of himself.   Mid-majors should be taking a look.

6. Robert Arnold  6-7  SO  Antelope Valley (Lancaster CA) - Slender forward who really knows how to score in a variety of ways.  Can shoot the long ball and slash to the basket.  He was leading scorer, at 19 points per game, for the team that won the event.

7. Dante Smith  6-0  FR  Mt. San Antonio (Walnut CA) - Quietly becoming the top freshman point guard in the state.  He should be a national name if he chooses to come back to JUCO since he was a qualifier out of high school.  Busted out with a 37 point, 7 rebound, 5 assist, 3 steal, 2 block and 1 turnover game where he handled the ball the whole game.  Averaged 24 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals for the whole tournament.

8. Terrance Johns  6-3  SO  Bakersfield (Bakersfield CA) - Strong combo guard originally from Chicago.  He thrives in Bakersfield’s fast paced pressing system.  Solid 3 point shooter and uses his strong body to finish in traffic.  Low to mid major prospect.   He averaged 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

9. Spencer Davis  6-3  SO  Oxnard (Oxnard CA) - Slashing aggressive wing guard who really attacks the defense.  Originally from New Orleans.  He's been ranked as high as #85 nationally.  He averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds during the event.

10. Jamel McGuire  6-4  FR  San Diego City (San Diego CA) - Could be the best freshman combo guard in the state.  He's super fast and athletic, can get to the basket whenever he wants.   Brother of Fresno State forward Dominic McGuire.   He averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds.

11. Aaron Wall  6-5  SO  Oxnard (Oxnard CA) - Big time workhorse who just plays super hard all of the time. He gets a lot done on the post but can also take you off the dribble from the wing.  He averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds during the tournament.

12. Cornell Williams  6-7 SO  San Diego City  (San Diego CA) - Super explosive wing forward who didn't get on track until the last game where he hit 21 points.  He showed many big time athletic dunks during the event.  He's still a legitimate division one prospect.

13. Gemel Coleman  6-4  SO  LA Valley (Van Nuys CA) - Wing guard who can score in bunches.  He averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals for the weekend.

14. Jimmy House  6-5  SO  Mt. San Antonio (Walnut CA) - Strong wing forward who plays hard all of the time and does what it takes to win.  He averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds over the weekend.

15. Marcellus Robertson  6-8  SO  Antelope Valley (Lancaster CA) - Big post who just love to bang down low.  He takes up space and gets a lot done in the post, he just plays real hard.  He averaged 11 points and 9 rebounds.
