Stoneridge Prep Loses to Laurinburg Prep
(February 27, 2006)

LENOIR, NC.  Stoneridge Prep’s march through the south continued on Sunday losing to highly ranked Laurinburg Prep by a margin that was a lot closer than the final score would indicate (92-75).  Stoneridge Prep trailed a deep and talented Laurinburg team by only 4 points with less than 5 minutes to go in the game.  Stoneridge Prep continues to play less than full strength with both Hamady N’diaye and Shane Mahoney playing with sprained knees and 3-point sharp shooter Marvin Adams remaining in Los Angeles to attend to a family matter.

Stoneridge prep was paced in the game by a trio of players.  6’11” Mamadou Diarra continues to show why he is one of the top unsigned players in the country, scoring 23 points (3 3-pointers) and grabbing 11 rebounds in the losing cause.  The starting backcourt of 6’4” Herb Tanner and 6’1” point guard Shane Mahoney made plays all game long.  Tanner scored 16 points (3 3-pointers) including 2 3-pointers and Mahoney contributed 15 points with a game high 11 assists and also 4 rebounds.

With the injury to N’diaye and the absence of Adams, 6’6’ Mahamoud Diakite stepped in and contributed 8 points including 2 monstrous dunks and also grabbed 5 rebounds.  However, the highlight of the game was turned in by 6’2’ senior reserve guard Al Brown who stole the ball at half court and literally dunked and jumped over a 6’5” Laurinburg player.  Brown has earned significant minutes during the last few weeks due to his athleticism and his stellar work on defense.
