Stoneridge Prep Loses Heartbreaker to Boys to Men (72-68)
(February 24, 2006)

CHICAGO, IL.  It might have been minus 6 degrees outside but things got plenty hot inside as two nationally ranked prep schools went at it Saturday.  Stoneridge Prep (Simi Valley, CA) lost a hard fought battle to rival Boys to Men (IL) by the score of 72-68 in Chicago.  Stoneridge Prep had a chance to tie the game with 3 seconds left when junior guard, Marvin Adams’ shot rolled off the rim.

This well played game had Boys to Men leading throughout much of the contest.  Stoneridge Prep kept chipping away and when 6’11” Mamadou Diarra scored off a missed shot they were behind by only 1 point with 35 seconds remaining.  Boys to Men scored on the ensuing possession, which led to Stoneridge missing the last shot.

A number of Stoneridge players had excellent games in a losing cause.  Leading the way in scoring again was Diarra as he tallied a game-high 22 points with 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  Coming off the bench 6’11” junior Ibrahima Thomas scored 13 points with 5 rebounds.  The team’s guard play continued to be solid.  Starting point guard, Shane Mahoney, although playing with a sprained knee, had an excellent overall game scoring 12 points, pulling down 7 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists.  Versatile wing forward 6’9” Djibril Thiam contributed 9 points and also had 7 rebounds.
