It's Miller Time For Jerrett and Cooper
November 28, 2010

On Saturday, La Verne Lutheran (La Verne CA) was having their annual media day to kick-off the 2010-11 season.

The occasion also served as an opportunity for two highly-regarded La Verne Lutheran underclassmen to announce their college choice.  6'9" junior power-forward Grant Jerrett and 6'4" sophomore combo-guard Eric Cooper Jr. declared that they will both attend Arizona - picking Sean Miller's Wildcats over UCLA, Washington, Duke, North Carolina, USC, Kansas, Texas, Georgetown, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona State, UNLV, Colorado, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

Grant's and Eric's high school coach is Eric's dad - Eric Cooper Sr. who has done a masterful job of developing them as well as building the La Verne Lutheran program (Trojans were 2010 California's Division V state champs in just Cooper's 3rd year at the helm).

Jerrett is a highly-skilled forward that can score equally well in the paint as well as from the perimeter.  Grant is SoCal's top 2012 prospect - being ranked #11 by Scout.com, #12 by Rivals.com and #24 by Hoopmasters.com.  Grant also was a stand-out on a Belmont Shore club team for the past two years - teaming with Cooper and other top prospects like DeAndre Daniels (Rivals #9 in 2011), Cezar Guerrero (Rivals #61 in 2011), Amir Garrett (St. John's signee), Ronnie Stevens (Hawaii signee), Josh Huestis (currently a freshman at Stanford) and Godwin Okonji (currently a freshman at Loyola Marymount).

Jerrett was also a Top 25 selection this past year at the Pangos All-American Camp, Pangos All-American LIVE and Fullcourt Press All-West Camp as well as an all-tourney pick at the Las Vegas Fab 48.

Eric is a very poised lead guard with the skill, basketball IQ and size to play either backcourt spot.   Cooper (currently ranked #35 in the national soph class by Hoopmasters.com) has been plagued by leg injuries thepast year, but his immense potential was evident as early as his 8th grade year when he was invited to the prestigious Pangos All-American Camp and impressed  those in attendance.

Eric was also talented enough to start at the point guard position for Belmont Shore as a rising freshman in July 2009 after Cezar Guerrero was sidelined that summer

Jerrett and Cooper become the 3rd and 4th Belmont Shore players to become Wildcats - joining current Arizona guard Kyle Fogg and former Arizona player Ricky Anderson.  Former Belmont Shore star Brandon Jennings (now with the Milwaukee Bucks) once signed with Arizona before electing to play pro ball in Italy after his senior high school season at Oak Hill Academy

Jerrett and Cooper Jr. join two other Trojan teammates en route to Division I status:  seniors 6'0" point guard CJ Cooper (Eric's cousin) signed with UTEP while 6'1" combo-guard Bruce English inked with Loyola Marymount .
