2016 Fullcourt Press Spring League: Report I (March 1, 2016)
The 2016 Fullcourt Press Spring League tipped-off this past Sunday (February 28th) at Artesia High School (Lakewood CA). Opening day featured several impressive performances from unsigned seniors as well as underclassmen.
While we are still waiting for several of the league’s expected players to finish their HS seasons and join the league, listed below are just a few of the standouts from the league’s opening Sunday. Others will be featured in next week’s report.
Bryce Hamilton 6’2” 2018 Pasadena (Pasadena CA) Smooth lefty scoring lead guard with great feel and soft touch on his shot is a 2018 high-major worth tracking. Great body control on drives to the hoop combined with pin-point shooting ability make him a tough match-up. Hamilton had very good sophomore campaign averaging 13.6 points, 6.9 boards and 2.8 assists per game. Younger cousin of a trio of Hamilton brothers (Jordan/NBA, Issac/UCLA and Daniel/UConn) – all big time scorers in their own right.
Sebastian Much 6’7” 2017 JSerra (San Juan Capistrano CA) Strong and skilled forward can score on the block and has deceptive athleticism to drive or “stop & pop” from the perimeter. Archbishop Mitty (San Jose CA) transfer had impressive junior season at JSerra, averaging a double-double (18.4 ppg/10.4 rpg). Solid student (3.2 GPA).
Jacob Hughes 6’11” 2017 El Dorado (Placentia CA)
Center with size and a soft touch from mid-range needs to get stronger and more physical but signs are there that he has the potential to develop into a productive player on next level. Hughes just recently transferred from Servite to Eldorado after a less than impressive junior season and looks to get back on track with a strong spring and summer.
Majur Majak 7’1” 2018 Village Christian (Sun Valley CA) Extremely long soph center prospect runs floor well and has good hands on post-entry passes to the post. Majak has excellent potential as a rim-protector and shot-blocker on next level.- averaging 3.2 blocks per game this past HS season.
Toby Okwuokei 6’1” 2018 Rancho Cucamonga (CA) Under-the-radar quality Inland Empire 2018 PG is quick, shifty and strong with the ball as well as an excellent passer and shooter. Excellent defender is one to track!
Austin Galuppo 6’5” 2018 West Ranch (Santa Clarita CA)
High-octane swingman can really put points on board when hot.
Cameron Griffin 6’5” 2016 Servite (Anaheim CA)
Biola-bound hybrid forward finishes strong through contact and has a nice pull-up J.
Josh Caston 6’1” 2016 Village Christian (Sun Valley CA)
Crafty lead guard has nice perimeter range (averaged 14.5 ppg his past HS season).
Cezar Meza 5’10” 2016 Norco (Norco CA)
Heady PG has a very smooth 3-point stroke! Terrific student (3.9 GPA).
Michael Mensah 6’4” 2017 Ribet Academy (Los Angeles CA)
Very improved athletic wing has a pop in his step and real scoring ability (averaged 24.6 ppg this past season).
Harrison Kay 6’11” 2016 Bishop Amat (La Puente CA) Rugged center with size is productive on the boards.
Robert Salone 5’11” 2016 Paraclete (Lancaster CA)
Savvy playmaker makes good decisions.
Sean Romero 5’9” 2016 Maranatha (Pasadena CA) Sharp-shooting lead guard has nice 3-point range on jump shot.
Jonathan Guzman 6’8” 2016 Paramount (Paramount CA) Physical rebounder is active on the glass.
Joseph Octave 6’3” 2019 Mary Star (San Pedro CA) Young but talented WG has real scoring ability.
Dion Troupe 5’8” 2017 Quartz Hill (Lancaster CA) Small but aggressive point can really defend!
Silas Slaughter 5’9” 2018 Elite Prep Academy (Inglewood CA) Quick, penetrating PG has ability to find open teammates. Younger brother of former San Diego State star Marcus Slaughter.
Jayshawn Ross 6’3” 2018 Summit (Fontana CA)
Young WG is a good slashing scorer.
