by Dinos Trigonis
(October 19, 2013)

The 8th annual Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph Camp presented by Ball is Life was held recently last weekend (October 12-13) at the MAC Sports Center (Lewisville TX/Dallas area). This sold-out event featured 175-plus top 2016 and 2017 players (along with a few talented 2018 players) from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Georgia.  The camp began with an excellent skills work-out by former NBA player and assistant coach Morlon Wiley and continued with four competitive rounds of games that showcased the quality of the young talent present.  Media/scouts on hand includedDinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press, Nothing But Net Magazine & Hoop Scoop), Van Coleman ( & The Basketball Channel/McDonald’s All-American Game voter), Frank Burlison (’s All-American Game voter), Jerry Meyer (’s All-American Game voter), Alan Branch (, Glenn

Smith (, Jimmy Hicks (, Stacy Houston (, Brad Hensley (, Brian Merritt (John Lucas Enterprises/NBPA Camp), Chris Walker (Former Texas Tech Head Coach) and Michael Crouch (APEX Scouting).  The camp was heavy on quality “bigs” as well as athletic wings/guards with size.

The top 60 players were selected by the camp staff and media present and were showcased in the two “cream of the crop” games held at the conclusion of the event.

Below, we will highlight the players that were selected to the Top 30 game as well as list Top 60 Game selections and other “honorable mention” camp players.

Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game Selections
(in alphabetical order)

*           Jeremiah Allen                    6’8”     2017   Home School (Bryan TX)
Hard-nosed and physical PF competes extremely hard on every play.

 *           Gracin Bakumanya            7’0”     2016   Pantego Christian Academy (Arlington TX)
African import is an imposing C whose great length has real ability to disrupt opposing offenses.  Gracin runs floor very well for his size and showed signs of being a scoring option inside.

*           Deon Barrett                        5’9”     2016   Skyline (Dallas TX)
Quick PG can penetrate defenses with ease and is a crafty scorer.  The Plex’s #1 point in 2016.

*           Marques Bolden                 6’9”     2016   Desoto (Desoto TX)
Very impressive sophomore “Big” has soft hands and doesn’t mind getting physical in the paint.   Bolden (who should be a “no-brainer” Big 12 priority) also showed an impressive ability to face-up and score from 18 feet.  Was offered by Baylor the day after the camp concluded.  Legitimate McDonald’s All-American candidate.

*           Isaiah Brown                       6’2”     2016   Flower Mound (Flower Mound TX)
Slithering wing guard can get to the basket quickly off the bounce.

*           Mark Crowe                         6’4”     2016   Wilson (Dallas TX)
Athletic swingman attacks the basket with authority.

 *           Terrance Ferguson           6’5”     2016   Prime Prep (Dallas TX)
My choice for camp MVP was sensational all weekend long as he displayed the full athletic package of skills that make him a legitimate Top 10 national prospect.  Silky smooth jump shot with ultra-athleticism make him a truly elite player.  His Grant Hill-esque alley-oop jam here was one of the most impressive dunks I have seen all Fall.  Ferguson (who was discovered at this same camp last year) had 19 pts (on 7/11 from field and 3/6 from the “three”) in Top 30 Game.

*           De’Aaron Fox                      6’2”     2016   Cypress Lakes (Cypress TX)
Lefty combo-guard is extremely athletic as this tip-jam over a 6’10” defender demonstrates: Love his confidence with the ball and his ability to make plays on both ends.  Attended the USA Basketball mini-camp the weekend before in Colorado Springs CO.

*           Chris Giles                           6’3”     2017   West (Plano TX)
Strong combo-guard has the skill set and size to draw high-major attention.

*           Jerris Harris                         6’1”     2016   Humble (Humble TX)
Solid lead guard plays sound defense.

*           Harrison Henderson         6’9”     2016   Triple A Academy (Dallas TX)
Skilled hybrid-forward with size has shown great improvement over a year ago.  Very good ballhandler in the open court has an Austin Daye-type game.  Oozing with HM potential.

*           Schneider Herard               6’10”  2016   Prestonwood Christian (Plano TX)
Haitian native has added good bulk to go along with his impressive length and is now one of the sophomore class’ top post prospects.  Excellent shotblocker and rebounder has really improved his scoring skills on the block.

*           Curtis Hollis                         6’5”     2016   Prime Prep (Dallas TX)
Agile WF with nice ability to knock down jump shots off the bounce.

*           Colby Honeycutt                6’5”     2016   Triple A Academy (Dallas TX)
Quick wing forward runs floor extremely well and has a good reaction to the rock on the defensive end.

*           Vance Hughes                    6’3”     2015   Kennedale (Kennedale TX)
Athletic off-guard can finish in traffic and is quick in transition. Scored 10 points (2/4 from the 3-point line) in Top 30 Game.

 *           Isaiah Jacey                         6’9”     2017   Ellison (Killeen TX)
Young PF has a great body and a feel for the game that projects HM status.  Love his soft hands and ability to use size to seal and score with regularity inside.  Top 25 caliber talent.

*           Rashad Kirkshaw              6’1”     2017   Cedar Hill (TX)
Crafty lead guard served notice in Top 30 Game that he has top-notch ability to really put points on the board (17 points on 7/12 FGs) with a variety of scoring tools that extend beyond the 3-point line (3/6 from the “three”).

*           DJ McGee                             5’11”  2016   Prestonwood Christian (Plano TX)
Dependable PG has impressive court vision as well as an accurate 3-point stroke.

*           Cameron McGriff                6’6”     2016   South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie TX)
Very strong and athletic SF had his moments of greatness here including a stuff in the Top 30 Game that left his defender scrambling for cover and fans shaking their heads. Style of play has Big 12 written all over him.

 *           Austin Meyer                       6’9”     2016   Mustang (Mustang OK)
Polished PF is very skilled, runs floor well and has a wide array of post moves he utilizes to score with regularity.  Very good perimeter shooter (dangerous off the “pick and pop”) had 10 points (4/7 FG) in Top 30 Game.

*           Nate Morris                          6’9”     2016   Lancaster (Lancaster TX)
Aggressive post has excellent size and is dependable on the glass.

*           Jordan Myers                      6’2”     2017   North Crowley (North Crowley TX)
Strong wing uses strength to get to the basket and score despite contact.

*           Ricky “Doc” Nelson          6’0”     2017   Episcopal (Houston TX)
Savvy young playmaker is a terrific passer.

*           Josh Parrish                        6’3”     2016   Seguin (Arlington TX)
Strong WG competes on every play and is an excellent rebounder.

*           Jamar Sandifer                   6’2”     2016   Triple A Academy (Dallas TX)
Athletic off-guard with range on jump shot is an underrated rebounder as well.

 *           Jarred Vanderbilt               6’8”     2017   Victory Prep (Houston TX)
One of the elite freshmen in the nation, Vanderbilt is a multi-talented forward that has a great feel for the game.  Terrific ballhandler for size, Jarred has ability to beat defenders at will off the dribble and the court sense to make sound decisions.  Will be recruited at the highest level.

*           Quintin Wallace Jr.6’5”     2017   Clarksville (Clarksville TX)
Athletic SF runs floor well and is an excellent defender.  Had a very solid Top 30 Game – scoring 10 points (5/6 from field).

*           Deshang Weaver                6’6”     2018   Cy-Falls (Cypress TX)
Very promising young swingman is just scratching the surface of his immense potential.  Held up very well against the top talent at this camp.

*           Shawn Williams                  6’0”     2017   Prime Prep (Dallas TX)
Scrappy combo-guard gets after it at the defensive end and the Arkansas native is hard to contain off the dribble.
