2011 Fullcourt Press Spring League: Report II
(March 15, 2011)

The 2011 Fullcourt Press Spring League continued last Sunday (March 13th) at Cabrillo HS (Long Beach CA) and several more top prospects made appearances.  In our last report we highlighted strong play from the likes of Anthony January, Isaac Hamilton, Nick Colletta, Austin Mills and Marcus Bradley.  In this report we feature several more standouts.

Darnell Taylor                                 6’2”     2011   Crenshaw (Los Angeles CA)
While I originally intended not to discuss players that were noted in last week’s report, Taylor’s play this past Sunday was too exceptional to ignore.  Strong and athletic lead guard has to be one of the West Coast’s top unsigned seniors and could be a very nice late pick-up for a high-major program in dire need of a swarming defender that can also create off the dribble and finish high above the rim.

Chris Reyes                                     6’7”     2012   Damien (La Verne CA)
Athletic PF runs floor extremely well and is quick off his feet around the cup.  Good student pounds the boards hard and possesses a very nice face-up mid-range jump shot.  Mid-to-high major prospect worth taking a hard look at.

Maurice Kirby                                  6’9”     2013   Poston Butte (San Tan Valley AZ)
Strong post-forward has the mass to be a force on the block and the grades (“A” student) and work-ethic to climb higher on national 2013 lists.

Tyler Dorsey                                    6’4”     2015   Ribet Academy (Los Angeles CA)
Gifted young lead guard has the rare combination of size, skill and basketball instincts necessary to develop into an elite high-major prospect.  Dorsey has legitimate potential to challenge for the #1 spot in the national 2015 class.

Brendan Otero                                6’5”     2012   Palisades (Los Angeles CA)

Active and agile swingman seems to be in the thick of every play on both ends of the floor.  Otero finishes well in transition and has the physical tools to be a lock-down defender.

Joe Soto                                           6’0”     2011   Rio Mesa (Oxnard CA)
Excellent floor general is an exceptional passer that handles defensive pressure well.

Alex Carmon                                    6’3”     2011   Poly (Long Beach CA)
Tenacious defender with a deceptively good outside stroke is one of the region’s top unsigned seniors.

Michael Avery                                  6’5”     2012   Crespi (Encino CA)
Smart and versatile player can play all three perimeter positions.  Excellent passer sat out his junior season due to CIF transfer rules after returning back to his original high school from Montverde Academy (FL).

Payton Banks                                 6’6”     2013   Orange Lutheran (Orange CA)
Much improved combo-forward is a name to watch in the developing sophomore class.

Josh Wilson                                     6’1”     2011   Westchester (Los Angeles CA)
Very underrated combo-guard has a perimeter stroke that must be respected.

Nairu Henderson                            6’4”     2011   Independence (Bakersfield CA)
Strong wing has nice ability to score within 17 feet.

Daveon Thomas                             6’6”     2012   Crenshaw (Los Angeles CA)
Muscular and athletic forward is a physical rebounder.

Victor Jones                                    6’3”     2011   Lakewood (Lakewood CA)
Emerging late-bloomer had an impressive senior season.

Michael Alvarez                               6’2”     2012   Gahr (Cerritos CA)
Strong off-guard has plenty of intangibles and is a fine student.

Adam Turner                                   6’5”     2014   Roosevelt (Corona CA)
Promising freshman wing has the length and upside to merit close tracking.

Jared Ponce                                                6’2”     2012   Ayala (Chino Hills CA)
Slashing scorer is crafty off the bounce and is a very good student.

Tyler Ponce                                     6’2”     2012   Ayala (Chino Hills CA)
Scoring off-guard can get buckets in a variety of ways.  Like triplet brothers (Jared and Matt) is also a fine student.

Ryan Snell                                        5’11”  2012   Cypress (Cypress CA)
Sharp-shooting point has a solid handle.

Izuchukwu Ezeonu                                    6’0”     2013   King-Drew (Los Angeles)
Slashing combo-guard is very improved and is quick to the basket off the dribble.

Roberto Campos                            5’11”  2012   California (Whittier CA)
Scrappy point has an accurate pull-up jumper.

Kenny Gaddy                                  6’3”     2011   Independence (Bakersfield CA)
Solid wing player can knock down open shots.

Lucio Bolado                                   5’9”     2014   Glendora (Glendora CA)
Confident young point has dangerous three-point range.

Young “big” rebounds well.

Greg Karapoulios                           6’5”     2013   Cypress (Cypress CA)
Improving post-forward is active on the boards.

Tylen Douglas                                6’2”     2013   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)
Good looking soph off-guard has nice potential.

Steven Mopskioff                           5’11”  2012   Highland (Palmdale CA)
Hardworking PG does a fine job directing traffic.

Travis Harlan                                   6’4”     2013   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)
Raw forward is still growing, but is hard-working and runs floor well.

Luciano Gamiz                                6’2”     2011   Quartz Hill (Quartz Hill CA)
Off-guard has an accurate outside stroke.

Aaron Johnson                               6’0”     2014   Palisades (Los Angeles CA)
Younger brother of respected junior Donovan Johnson is a tenacious defender that loves to attack the basket off the bounce.

Justin Bibbins                                 5’8”     2014   Bishop Montgomery (Torrance CA)
Small but crafty and cerebral point plays with no fear.

Jordon Augustus                           5’11”  2012   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)
Crafty combo-guard has an excellent perimeter stroke.

Myles Smith                                     5’8”     2012   Mayfair (Lakewood CA)
Smooth point guard sees the court well and can deliver the rock with precision.

Jordan Franks                                5’10”  2012   Crean Lutheran (Santa Ana CA)
Heady playmaker makes sound decisions.

Austin Lee                                        5’9”     2014   Brentwood (Los Angeles CA)
Younger brother of former Stanford star Art Lee is a steady floor leader.

Ricky Schexnayber                       6’0”     2013   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)
Quick PG handles ball well.

This is the second of four reports highlighting league play and will note additional standouts in the upcoming weeks.
