Cezar Guerrero Finishes Summer With Impressive Performance at adidas Nations
(August 9, 2010
)

6'0" rising senior point guard Cezar Guerrero (St. John Bosco/Bellflower CA) had a very impressive summer – capping it off with an exceptional effort this past weekend at the adidas Nations affair held in Chicago IL – leading his Latin American squad to the Final 4 of that event.  Guerrero’s 20 points/4 assists/6 boards helped spark his team to a 73-59 win over Africa in the 3rdplace game which was shown live on CBS College Sports TV.  Cezar was also named MVP of the 3rdPlace Game by CBS College Sports TV.  On the opening night of the event, Cezar served notice that he was for real when he had 24 points/ 5 assists/5 rebounds in his squad’s near upset of the USA 2012 team lead by elite prospects Shabazz Muhammad, Isaiah Austin, Kyle Anderson, Amile Jefferson and Winston Shepard.

“Cezar was killing……a dominant floor-leader” said adidas Nations general manager Darren “Mats” Matsubara.

Guerrero started the summer with an outstanding performance at the Bob Gibbons Tourney of Champions in Chapel Hill/Durham NC - leading his team to the Elite 8 there and was the 2nd leading scorer in the entire event (averaging 25.5 points per game) as well as garnering all-tourney honors.  Cezar's highlights at the Gibbons TOC included efforts of 32 points/9 assists against the New York Panthers, 30 points/8 dimes versus the Louisiana Future and 25 points/7 assists against Florida Elite.

Guerrero was invited to the Pangos All-American LIVE in July and his strong play there earned him a Top 25 Game selection. Cezar's personal battle with elite PG Jahii Carson in that Top 25 Game was one to remember.  Cezar responded to Carson's 28 point/6 rebound/13 assist performance with a 27 point/5 rebound/7 assist effort of his own.

Guerrero was also a Top 25 pick at the 2010 Fullcourt Press All-West Camp and performed consistently well at the 2010 Las Vegas Fab 48 -sparking Belmont Shore to impressive super pool wins over California Supreme and 2009 Rbk Summer Champion Team Detroit (earning all-tourney honors in the process).  At his last July tourney, the Desert Duel (Gilbert AZ), Guerrero (playing with an injured left wrist) led an undermanned Belmont Shore squad (only had 5 players in uniform) in its final game against Chicago-based Mac Irvin Fire 17 and responded with a passionate 23 point/11 assist effort that propelled Belmont Shore past the Fire 78-74.

Cezar has always been a high octane scorer, but showed in July that he had a real ability to find open teammates for easy baskets as well as run his squads in ways that result in winning efforts.  Guerrero (a legitimate top 50-100 national prospect) is now receiving serious  interest from the likes Auburn, Oklahoma, Indiana, Western Kentucky, Miami FL, Oregon, Colorado, UNLV, Oregon State, Washington State, Fresno State, UTEP, Utah, New Mexico State, Nevada, SMU, Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State, UC-Irvine, Santa Clara and  Cal State Northridge.
