2009 Fullcourt Press Spring League Report: Part II

The 2009 Fullcourt Press Spring League has been in full swing the past three Sundays at Cabrillo HS (Long Beach CA) and has consisted of 10 individual (“Select”) teams as well as 20 club (“Elite”) squads such as Belmont Shore, Los Angeles Rockfish, California Supreme, Team Odom LA, Branch West Elite, Cal Select, NOC Stars, CABC, Belmont Shore Up & Coming, B3 Elite, SBA Rebels/LAC and Gamepoint.

In Part I of this report we highlighted players such as Deonte Burton, Jordan Hamilton, Cezar Guerrero, Justin Brue, Thurman Woods, LaBradford Franklin, Bak Bak, Jordan Salley and Kevin Mulloy.  Below are several more top players that have stood out so far.

 

Keala King                                       6’4”     2010   Dominguez (Compton CA)
Talented wing with the swagger of a champion is also a fine student.

 

Derrick Williams                              6’7”     2009   La Mirada (La Mirada CA)

USC signee showed off his smooth jump shot as

well as his passion for the game by showing up last Sunday for two strong runs.

Ronnie Stevens                              6’8”     2011   Serra (Gardena CA)
Rapidly evolving PF displayed new and improved post footwork and is an underrated face-up shooter.

Robert Mandingo                           6’4”     2009   Dominguez (Compton CA)

Tenacious defender applies pressure like few others in his class.

 

Devon Golston                                6’5”     2009   Gahr (Cerritos CA)

Late-blooming athletic scorer had an excellent senior season – leading his Gahr squad to the CIF Finals.

Stephon Heard                               6’6”     2009   Jordan (Long Beach CA)

Slash-and-score forward is athletic as well as very quick in transition.

 

Gabe York                                        6’2”     2012   Orange Lutheran (Orange CA)

Crafty scoring guard has real high-major potential.

 

Kunnu Shofu                                   6’6”     2009   Santa Monica (Santa Monica CA)

Robust combo-forward can really elevate above the rim and has an impressive mid-range game.

Kacy Barlow                                    6’4”     2010   Diamond Bar (Diamond Bar CA)

Athletic wing has nice ability to take defenders off the dribble.

 

Brandon Parga                                   6’3”     2009   Cathedral (Los Angeles CA)
Savvy combo-guard has a perimeter stroke that must be respected.


Johnny Dee                                     5’11”  2011   Rancho Buena Vista (Vista CA)

Spunky PG can dial from long-distance with accuracy.

 

Marcus Johnson                            6’0”     2009   Miss Elite Christian (Jackson MS)

Steady point has added strength and is a productive leader on the floor.

 

Michael Hearn                                 6’1”     Post.  Saddleback College (Mission Viejo CA)

Athletic combo-guard is a pesky defender that is “gray-shirting” this year at Saddleback JC (Mission Viejo CA).

 

Dion Hudson                                   5’9”     2010   Bishop Amat (La Puente CA)
Small, but strong playmaker is an underrated athlete and can finish his drives to the cup.


Trevor Warren                                 6’5”     2009   Santa Clara (Oxnard CA)

Slithering swingman is fast to the rim off the bounce.

 

Max Heller                                        5’10”  2011   Torrey Pines (San Diego CA)
Cerebral floor-leader knows how to direct offensive half-court traffic.

 

Noah Aguirre                                   6’5”     2009   Filmore (Fillmore CA)

Blue-collar combo-forward can finish with regularity inside.

 

Jared Ponce                                                6’1”     2012   Ayala (Chino Hills CA)

Sharp-shooting guard is one of a trio of freshmen triplets (Matthew and Tyler being the other Ponce brothers) playing for Tom Gregory at Ayala.


Chris Croom                                    5’8”     2012   Dominguez (Compton CA)

Small but very quick PG will have his chance to star at Dominguez next season.

 

Nick Kerr                                          6’3”     2011   Torrey Pines (San Diego CA)

Lefty shooter has legitimate 3-point range.

 

Aaron Wilson                                   6’8”     2010   Upland (Upland CA)
2010 post with size rebounds well.

Michael Alvarez                               6’2”     2012   Calvary Chapel (Downey CA)
Skilled wing is strong with the ball.


Justin Oyebanji                              6’6”     2009   Brea-Olinda (Brea CA) 
Slender forward runs floor well and is active on the glass.


Jordan Fuller                                   6’1”     2011   Mater Dei (Santa Ana CA)
Underrated guard has a nice package of skills and is a player of the future for Gary McKnight’s Monarchs.


John-Garrett Baron                       6’6”     2010   Foothill (Santa Ana CA) 

Hustling forward can finish in traffic.

 

Justin Kaminski                              6’7”     2011   Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA)  

Very improved PF runs the floor well and doesn’t mind being physical in the paint.


Farzan Azinkhan                            5’10”  2010   Beverly Hills (Beverly Hills CA) 
Heady playmaker makes great decisions.

 

Victor Jones                                    6’2”     2011   Lakewood (Lakewood CA)
Emerging combo-guard with potential has nice length and an evolving skill set.


Justin Spitz                                      5’10”  2010   Brentwood (Los Angeles CA)
Tough point runs team well and has a high basketball IQ.  Father is legendary Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz.


Andre Newman                               6’2”     2011   Ayala (Chino Hills CA) 
Skilled off-guard is an effective slashing scorer.


Hunter Walker                                 6’4”     2012   Righetti (Santa Maria CA)
Intriguing wing with size has a bright upside.


Kevin Keegan                                 6’2”     2010   Palos Verdes (Palos Verdes CA) 
Hard-working off-guard doesn’t take a play off.


Aaron Bennett                                 5’10”  2010   Kean Valley (Wofford Heights CA)
Scrappy point guard handles rock well.

 

Zach Pulig                                        6’2”     2011   Lakewood (Lakewood CA) 

Tough combo-guard plays excellent defense.

 

Cassidy Young                               5’11”  2010   Gahr (Cerritos CA)

Point guard has a smooth perimeter stroke.

 

Chris Ashanti                                  6’3”     2010   Jordan (Los Angeles CA)

Athletic wing is a 2010 prospect worth keeping an eye on.

 

Joseff Singleton                             6’5”     2011   View Park Prep (Los Angeles CA)  

Combo-forward needs to add strength but he plays hard at both ends and doesn’t mind doing the dirty work inside.

 

Iffy Udeagha                                    5’7”     2011   King Drew (Los Angeles CA) 

Quick floor general has a rock-solid handle.

 

Isaac Deese                                     5’6”     8th        Hughes MS (Long Beach CA) 

Promising lead guard propelled Hughes MS to the Long Beach Middle School championship this school year.

 

Timmi Agbelemose                        5’4”     8th      Haskell MS (Cerritos CA) 

Small but cerebral point competes well and is a very good student.
