2009 Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase Report I: Class of 2010
By Dinos Trigonis
(September 17, 2009)
The annual Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase was held last Sunday at Poly HS (Long Beach CA) and as was the case with previous editions, there was plenty of talent present. Five classes (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) were on hand and they gave us plenty of evidence of both the present and future.
Media/scouts on hand included Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram), Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press & Nothing But Net), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Dave Nahabedian (Networx), Gerry Freitas (Hoop Review), Dave Keefer, Dave Rogahn and Jack Nelson (California Preps), Roy White (WestCoastHoopsReport.com), Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com) and Nick Koza (SportsAmp.com). In this report, I will focus on several of the members of the Class of 2010 that took part.
Deonte Burton 6’1” 2010 Centennial (Compton CA)
Burton was the story of the evening as he was sensational here – pouring in “threes” from long-range (made five 3-point shots) as well as being acrobatic above the rim. Two of his amazing dunks were of the ESPN Sportscenter “Top 10” variety. Stat line: 25 points/8 rebounds/4 assists. Long Beach State reportedly leads for this dynamic combo-guard and if that were to happen, the 49’ers would corral a high-major steal that many top programs have been sleeping on.
LaBradford Franklin 6’2” 2010 Great Oak (Temecula CA)
Elusive ballhandler with a confident perimeter stroke knocked down a long-range 3-pointer with 1:25 left to spark a game-ending 9-0 run for the winning Black squad.
Shelton Boykin 6’5” 2010 Poly (Long Beach CA)
Athletic forward is a recent Long Beach State commit that was impressive here (22 points/11 boards).
Frankie Eteauti 6’8” 2010 Cathedral City (Los Angeles CA)
Long, lean and athletic post-forward has considerable upside. Had 10 points/5 rebounds in the Top 20 Senior Game.
Avery Johnson 6’4” 2010 Ocean View (Huntington Beach CA)
Slithering scorer is a scrappy wing that gets after it at both ends (had 9 points/6 rebounds here).
Clint Bozner 6’7” 2010 Villa Park (Villa Park CA)
Sharpshooter with size can also flush it with authority. Very good student had 14 points/6 boards in top senior game.
Solomon Singer 6’5” 2010 Santa Monica (Santa Monica CA)
Rangy swingman is an excellent slashing scorer.
Dion Hudson 5’10” 2010 Bishop Amat (La Puente CA)
