2008 Fullcourt Press All-West Camp: Top 75 All-Star Selections by Dinos Trigonis (August18, 2008) This summer’s Fullcourt Press All-West Camp was held on July 11-13 at the new HAX Hangar in Hawthorne CA.  The 11th version of the camp attracted 300-plus of the West Coast’s top prospects including players from California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and Georgia.

Media/scouts present include Dinos Trigonis (Fullcourt Press & Hoop Scoop), Etop Udo-Ema (Fullcourt Press & Hoopmasters), Frank Burlison (Long Beach Press-Telegram & Scouthoops.com), Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Patrick Stanwood (Hoop Scoop & Hoop Masters), Greg Hicks (Scouthoops.com), Ronnie Flores (Student-Sports.com), Gerry Freitas (Hoop Review), Matt Rodriguez (BallisLife.com), Nick Koza (SportsAmp.com), Dave Nahabedian (Networx), Dave Keefer & Dave Rogahn (California Preps), Alan Utter and Bob Jacoby (Hoop Scoop) and Lee Hubbard (NorCal Preps) while colleges coaches on hand included Ben Howland (UCLA), Tim Floyd (USC), Lorenzo Romar (Washington), Lon Kruger (UNLV), Craig Robinson (Oregon State), Jim Boylan (Utah), Steve Fisher (San Diego State), Mark Fox (Nevada), Karl Hobbs (George Washington), Billy Grier (San Diego), Steve Cleveland (Fresno State), Bob Burton (Cal State Fullerton), Tom Asbury (Pepperdine), Bob Williams (UC-Santa Barbara), Bobby Braswell (Cal State Northridge), Gary Stewart (UC-Davis), Jim Wooldridge (UC-Riverside), Brian Katz (Sacramento State), Mike Adras (Northern Arizona) and assistants from Arizona, Stanford, Washington State, Cal, Arizona State, Oregon, Louisville, Maryland, Marquette, Boston College, Gonzaga, West Virginia, Colorado, Air Force, UTEP, SMU, Colorado State, St. Mary’s and many others.  The level of talent on display again reaffirmed this event as the top regional camp in the West.   Below are the players that were selected to the Top 75 game.  2008 Fullcourt Press All-West Camp Cream of the Crop Top 75 Game Selections (in alphabetical order)

Robert Allen                         6’3”     2009   Crossroads (Santa Monica CA) Good looking combo-guard with size has a nice skill package.   Braeden Anderson                        6’7”     2010   Foothills (Okotoks, Alberta CAN) Physical post has a great physique and is active on the boards.   Michael Atwater                  6’6”     2010   Villa Park (Villa Park CA)  Great student is a lefty with above average perimeter skills.   Vaughn Autry                      6’2”     2010   Serra (Gardena CA) Quick lead guard can beat defenders off the dribble with regularity.   Michael Avery                      6’4”     2012   Crespi (Encino CA) Skilled swingman created a lot of waves last spring with a very early verbal to Kentucky.   Peyton Banks                     6’4”     2013   Aliso Viejo CA  Excellent young offensive performer has a big future ahead of him.

Drew Bashen                      6’0”     2011   Memorial (Houston TX) Solid playmaker has a dependable handle and is a fine passer.   Amir Bell                               6’3”     2008   Lighthouse Christian (Dallas TX) Los Angeles native is a strong and athletic off-guard can score in a variety of ways.   Eric Bland                            6’2”     2008   Mira Mesa (San Diego CA) Accurate shooting combo-guard is headed to MCI (Pittsfield ME) for a post-grad year this upcoming season.   Xavier Blount                      6’4”     2009   First Colonial (Virginia Beach VA)   Albuquerque NM native is a physical and strong guard that has an underrated three-point stroke.   Remy Boswell                     6’7”     2008   Capitol Hill (Oklahoma City OK) Physical post runs the floor well and is a good shotblocker.   Shawn Brooks                    6’4       2009   Pleasant Grove (Sacramento CA) Strong wing has ability to score in traffic.

Kevin Brown                       6’5”     2010   Palo Alto (Palo Alto CA) Versatile combo-forward has an effective inside-out game.   Jacob Cheek                       6’4”     2009   Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA) Very good shooter with underrated perimeter skills.   Tim Douglas                        5’10”  2010   Mayfair (Lakewood CA) Very quick point has a high basketball IQ and real ability to score the basketball.   Dominique Dunning          6’3”     2011   Centennial (Corona CA) Young wing with great intangibles is a name to watch in this class.  Played freshman year at Santiago HS (Corona CA).   Adam Eackles                     6’7”     2009   Natomas (Sacramento CA) Agile forward rebounds well. Frankie Edwards                6’7”     2010   Bishop Amat (La Puente CA) Long post has experienced rapid growth the last year or so and has really improved his skill set.  Son of former Long Beach State power-forward Frank Edwards has considerable upside.

Tyler Emrick                        6’7”     2009   Spanish Springs (Sparks NV)   Energetic forward gives maximum effort.   Julian Franklin                    6’4”     2009   Green Valley (Henderson NV)    Crafty wing finds ways to score around the basket.   Austin Gage                         6’2”     2010   Salpointe (Tucson AZ) Shooter has deep perimeter range as well as underrated ballhandling skills.   Lawrence Hampton Jr.     5’9”     2010   Ironwood Ridge (Tucson AZ) Very quick PG has a rock-solid handle and the speed to beat fullcourt defensive pressure.   Chris Harriel                        6’4”     2009   San Jacinto (San Jacinto CA) Athletic wing plays above the rim.   Carl Hoffman                       6’8”     2009   Loyola (Los Angeles CA)  Wide-post is a very productive and consistent scorer in the paint.   Donovon Jackson             6’4”     2009   El Toro (El Toro CA)  Very improved wing has extended his range on his jump shot beyond the 3-point stripe.

Kareem Jamar                     6’4”     2010   Westchester (Los Angeles CA) Athletic wing forward is both an excellent defender as well as a superb slasher to the basket. Deshan McCoy                   6’3”     2009   Westchester (Los Angeles CA) Very underrated wing is quick and athletic.   Stefan Mulder                      6’1”     2009   AIB Prep (Henderson NV) Netherlands native is a solid combo-guard that has the ability to create for himself as well as teammates.   Kaylim Noel                         6’4”     2009   Chavez (Phoenix AZ) Athletic off-guard is an excellent slashing scorer. Shawn Norum                     6’3”     2009   Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA)  Sharp-shooting wing is also an excellent student.   Mike Oloya                           6’5”     2011   Kearny (San Diego CA) Very promising young forward will be one to track in this class.   Xavier Roy                           6’2”     2011   San Diego (San Diego CA)

Muscular combo-guard handles the ball with care and has real ability to beat defenders off the dribble. Dara Samani                        6’7”     2010   Tesoro (Las Flores CA) Tough rebounder can finish with regularity on the block.   Wesley Saunders               6’4”     2011   Windward (Los Angeles CA)  Promising athletic wing forward has a huge upside.   Bryant Strozier                    6’0”     2009   Columbia (Lithonia GA) Quick combo-guard has very nice ability to score off the dribble.

Martin Thomas Jr.              5’10”  2010   San Diego (San Diego CA) Quick PG sees the floor well.   Jason Walter                       6’4”     2009   AIB Prep (Henderson NV) Scoring wing has extended range on his jump shot.   David Washington             6’6”     2009   University City (San Diego CA) Strong forward can knock down perimeter shots.   Darrius Williams                 6’6”     2010   Jordan (Long Beach CA) Well-built post-forward is a solid rebounder with potential.   Demetric Williams              6’1”     2009   Cheyenne (North Las Vegas NV) Very athletic and active combo-guard was as good as anybody in this game.  Excellent scorer and a harassing defender.   Lawrence Williams             6’1”     2010   Desert Edge (Gilbert AZ) Smart lead guard has excellent court instincts and impressive ability to run a team. Eric Zickefoose                   6’5”     2009   Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos CA)  Wing with good size has nice ability to score from the perimeter.
